Primary

Sometimes the classroom environment can be daunting for a young child, especially when they have to speak out in front of others. Tutoring can help build a child’s confidence and their core skills so that they can catch up with their peers and engage in learning in a classroom environment.  Our tutors will spend time with you to understand your child’s specific situation and the best ways to work with your child.

Secondary

The recent changes to the English GCSE (see below) has meant that we have had to rethink how tutoring support works.  The changes mean that students have to be extremely secure in their subject knowledge and their exam strategy and techniques as everything rests on the final exam and retakes are harder.

The changes have also mean that demand for tutoring rockets after the mock exams putting pressure students (as well as on tutor availability). Our advice is to gauge your child’s performance at the end of year 10 rather than wait until year 11. Any support that is needed can then start in the autumn term and avert the last minute panics we are seeing this year.

The changes to the exam affect all exam boards and our tutors are aware of the requirements for the new exam specifications.

Changes to the English GCSE

GCSEs have changed so that the final exam after two years’ of study is now the only piece of work that determines a student’s grade.  The main changes that affect the way a student works are:-

  • Project work is being phased out so students cannot accrue marks towards their final grade over the GCSE course.
  • Marks will be awarded for spelling, punctuation and grammar as well as the quality of the questions answered.
  • To improve their grade, a student will have to retake the whole exam, not just one of the two or three papers.
  • Any student not achieving a C grade or above will be ‘encouraged’ to retake the exam up to the age of 19.

Sixth Form

Whether its A level, Pre-U or an International Baccalaureate we have a large team of tutors who have know the syllabus and have experience of helping students achieve the grades they need.
